Teresa Payton

LPC

My name is Teresa Payton, currently, I am a LPC practicing DBT in the state of Ohio. I have worked in the mental health field for over 3 years now. I graduated from Kent State University with a BA in Psychology and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I’m now a Licensed Professional Counselor and Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. Throughout my experience, I have worked with individuals and families struggling with a wide range of concerns and specific needs, including individuals with both mental health and substance use struggles. My philosophy is that we all have the ability to learn skills to achieve personal growth. It’s my job as a counselor to teach the individual how to use these skills. My outlook and goal when clients seek my help is to create a safe, authentic, compassionate, and judgment-free environment. Having a "safe space" for clients to freely discuss emotional and substance use struggles helps promote growth. My philosophy is that not every theoretical approach fits everybody; therefore, I adapt to the client. As the client you and I are on a team striving towards achieving your therapeutic goals. You have the destination, and I am your GPS discussing obstacles in your way. I am available at the Howland Office.
