Joe Humphries earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1990 and a Master's Degree in Education in Community Counseling in 1994 from Youngstown State University. While attending college, Joe worked at Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Department as an Instructor and Program Manager. While at Goodwill, Joe was promoted to Coordinator of Services for the Visually Impaired and he developed a program that brought blind and visually impaired people into the facility for the first time. After completing his Masters Degree he worked for Valley Counseling Services Prescreening Unit where he worked with severely mentally disabled clients. At Valley Counseling Joe specialized in Crisis Intervention and Assessment. Joe went on to work at Belmont Pines Hospital as the Director of Residential Services for a 35 bed Adolescent Residential Unit. Joe has worked in private practice for 7 years at PsyCare as a therapist and Clinic Director. He is currently the Clinic Director at Preferred Care Counseling. Joe specializes in treating persons recovering from chronic pain and injury. In addition to Joe's license as a Professional Clinical Counselor he also is a Licensed Social Worker and a National Certified Counselor. *Poland, Howland, and Columbiana Offices

Michele Hawn earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Youngstown State University in 1999 and earned a Masters of Educational Guidance and Counseling specializing in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Akron in 2002.  During the past 10 years, Michele has worked with a variety of mental/behavioral health issues.  She is a supervising counselor and has received post masters coursework in school counseling program development.  Michele also has specialized Level 2 training in EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing for trauma, phobias, depression, anxiety, anger, and dysfunctional patterns of interactions.  She was Clinic Director and counselor for PsyCare, worked for Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic in conjunction with the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center providing residential substance abuse counseling services.  Michele has experience working with autistic spectrum disorders using behavior modification, and works with adults, families and children of all ages. *Howland Office


Eric Ritz earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Fairmont State College in 1992 and a Master's Degree in Community Counseling in 1994 from Youngstown State University.  Eric has 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families.  His work history includes both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings as well as mental/behavioral intervention in school systems.  Eric also has extensive experience in the testing and assessment of children and adolescents.  Eric is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. *Poland Office
Heather Bowser has worked in private practice for the past four years. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  Heather received a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education (1996) and a Master's Degree in Education in Community Counseling (2007) from Youngstown State University. Heather specializes in treating persons dealing with PTSD, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Depression, GLBT issues and Bipolar Disorder. She accepts women, men, and teens as patients.  She employs a variety of therapeutic techniques including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Art Therapy and more. Heather is involved in creating an awareness of Veteran's issues and has a desire to help Veterans who are struggling with the demons of combat. Heather has traveled to Veitnam and is involved in helping people understand the ravages of Agent Orange. Heather has experience with helping people cope and live full lives while living with a disability, in particular, persons dealing with a limb loss. *Poland and Columbiana Offices




Julie Fitzgerald
has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in mental health for 8 years.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2002 from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science degree in Community Counseling in 2006 from Youngstown State University.  She is an Independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  Julie has worked in several community mental health settings including Family Counseling and Children's Services (Sharon, PA) treating children and adolescents with mental health disorders and their families; Community Solutions Association (Warren, OH) a dual diagnosis facility treating the unique needs of both chemical dependency and mental health issues; The Boys and Girls Club of America (Youngstown, OH) as mental health director; and PsyCare, Inc. (Canfield, Howland and Boardman OH locations) where she was on staff as an indpendently licensed clinical counselor.  Julie has a passion for holistic healing practices utilizing her interest, education and experience in exercise, nutrition, and general wellness to aid in treatment of mental health disorders.  She specializes in treatment of depression, anxiety including panic attacks and agoraphobia, mood disorders, adjustment disorders (job change, loss of a loved one, divorce, new marriage, etc.), eating disorders including binge eating/compulsive eating, food addictions and body image issues, and those seeking general wellness. *Poland Office

Rita Vennetti earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1993 and a Master's Degree in Education in Community Counseling in 1995 from Youngstown State University.  She is an independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  Rita has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families for 18 years at different clinical settings such as Valley Counseling and Churchill Counseling.  She specializes in trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, mood disorders and childhood issues.  Rita also specializes in couples and and marriage counseling. *Columbiana Office

Marie Bosio
is an Independently Licensed Counselor and a Registered Nurse with many years experience across a variety of settings.  Marie has experience in treating patients with chronic health issues, anxiety, depression, grief & loss, mood disorders, and relationship issues. *Poland Office

Robert Mahaffey earned a Master's Degree in Social Science Administration from Case Western Reserve University in 1996.  He is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. Bob has worked with severely mentally ill patients, patients with substance abuse issues, and patients in need of vocational rehabilitation. Bob has many years experience in Crisis Intervention and Stabilization. In addition to his 
position at Preferred Care, Bob works full time at The Veteran's Administration and he is sensitive to the issues surrounding our military personnel. *Poland Office

Kathleen Garchar earned a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1978 from Youngstown State University and her Masters Degree in Education/ Community Counseling in 1990. She also received additional post graduate education in the field of counseling and psychotherapy

at Youngstown State University.  She has been independently licensed since 1995 by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board as a Professional Clinical Counselor.  She is also licensed by the State of Ohio as a social worker. She worked at YSU as an instructor to dislocated workers.  She served on the Advisory Board for the first certificate program in Entrepreneurship offered by YSU.  Her internship was at Specialty Care Psychiatric Services and an additional voluntary internship at Woodside Receiving Hospital, a state hospital where she enhanced her clinical skills.  Kathleen maintained a private practice at PsyCare for over twenty years as a psychotherapist.  She also had an extensive clinical experience with in patient consultation on the psychiatric unit of St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Kathleen is currently part of the team at Preferred Care Counseling with a broad base of clinical experience, particularly win relationship issues, anxiety and mood disorders and adolescent issues.  She is a lifetime member of Chi Sigma Iota, a counseling honorary dedicated to scholastic and professional excellence. *Poland Office

Florence Lorimer
is an Independently Licensed Clinical Counselor. Florence has extensive experience working with children of all ages and families. Before coming to Preferred Care Counseling, she has worked in various clinical settings including Valley Counseling, PsyCare and Akron Children's Hospital where she participated in the Trauma Program.  She specializes in treating individuals with trauma and also specializes in Play Therapy.  *Howland Office

Michelle Tringhese is an Independently Licensed Clinical Counselor.  She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families for the past twelve years in both outpatient and inpatient settings.  Michelle has experience treating patients with trauma, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, women's issues, relationship issues, and drug/alcohol treatment.  *Poland and Howland Offices

Elida M. Schiavone has a Master's Degree in Social Work and is licensed as a Social Worker, Counselor, and Chemical Dependency Counselor. She has worked in both inpatient an outpatient settings with adults and teenagers. She has worked with alcohol and drug addiction as well as a wide array of mental health disorders. She has experience in group therapy and family therapy. Elida specializes in and has 25 years of experience in Chemical Dependency treatment. *Poland Office

Laura McCrea is a Licensed Psychologist. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Westminster College. She earned a Master's Degree in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Akron. Since becoming licensed in 2008, she has worked with adults who have struggled with various issues, including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, life transitions, chronic pain, mood problems, anger, relationship issues, and substance abuse. Her work at theDepartment of Veterans Affairs has made her particularly familiar with and sensitive to issues facing veterans and their family members. She has expertise in the treatment of trauma and is certified by the Veterans Administration in Cognitive Processing Therapy, an evidenced-based treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She also has extensive experience in psychological assessment and disability evaluations. She develops a treatment approach that capitalizes on the unique strengths of each individual to help them achieve more balance and wellness in life. *Poland Office

Sally Falasca is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and is board certified by the American Board of Examiners in clinical social work. For the past 15 years she has worked with adults, children, and families. For 9 1/2 of those years she worked as an active duty military social worker practicing social work in many different states and countries. Sally spent the last 5 1/2 years working at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Clinical Social Worker. Sally has extensive experience in treating survivors of domestic violence, substance abuse issues, anxiety, depression, grief, and mood disorders. She also provides couples and marital counseling. She specializes in treating trauma and PTSD and is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy. Sally also has extensive experience in crisis intervention. *Poland and Columbiana Office

Heather Whyel is an Independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. For the past 6 years she has worked as a crisis and sexual trauma intervention counselor with both inpatient and outpatient clients. She utilizes a systematic, eclectic approach with a strong grounding in psychodynamic therapy. She specializes in treating grief and traumatic life events. Heather also has experience treating individuals suffering from depression, Bipolar Disorder, relationship issues, substance abuse issues and life transition issues. *Howland Office

Larry Lapidus
is an Independently Licensed Clinical Counselor with over 25 years supervisory experience. He initiated clinical programming for Horizon House, a residential treatment facility for severely mentally disabled individuals, and the Eldercare Center in Struthers. He has provided counseling services to clients at the Doris Burdman Home, and has extensive experience with helping people with chronic mental and emotional disorders. *Poland and Columbiana Offices

Robert Marcus earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Education from Gannon University, a Master's Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University, and a Doctor of Education in Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania. He has extensive experience working with adults who have struggled with various mental health issues including: depression, anxiety, anger, mood problems, relationship and marital problems. He currently works full time at the Veterans Administration and is experienced with issues surrounding our military veterans. Additionally, he is certified in Divorce Mediation, working with couples who mutually agree to a non-contested end to their marriage. *Poland Office

Patricia Hatala
is an Independently Licensed Clinical Counselor with over 20 years experience in the field of Mental Health. She graduated from Kent State University with a BA in Sociology and from Youngstown State University with a MsEd in Community Counseling. She is also a Licensed Social Worker. She has worked at Valley Counseling Services, Oakwood Counseling, and the Beatitude House. She has also worked as a counselor in Utah. The areas Pat has experience in include: Anxiety, Depression, Anger Management, Women's Issues, Couples Counseling, Chronic Illness, and Domestic Violence. *Howland Office

Bette Nisbett
is a licensed Independent Social Worker. Bette earned her BA from Kent State University and her Master of Social Work from Youngstown State University. She has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. Before coming to Preferred Care Counseling, Bette worked at Valley Counseling Services as a therapist and case manager. She also has experience working with people with disabilities as an Employment Counselor at the Burdman Group.  Other professional experience was obtained while working at PsyCare, D&E Counseling, and the Beatitude House. Bette has worked as Therapist and Team Leader with those suffering from early onset symptoms of psychosis in the FIRST Program at Valley Counseling. Bette has also worked with people who have anxiety, depression, and many other types of mental health issues including: couples counseling, Bipolar Disorder, and domestic violence victims.  *Howland Office 

Shannon Rozycki
is an Independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She received her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Youngstown State University in the year 2000. She has over 15 years of experience working in the Mental Health field. She has worked extensively with children and adolescents in a residential facility that focused on treating victims of abuse and trauma; children experiencing behavioral issues at home and/or school; and those having difficulty adjusting to life changes. Shannon employs a variety of therapeutic modalities to include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Behavior Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Shannon approaches therapy with a great deal of caring, compassion, and acceptance for the individual and their personal experiences. *Howland Office

Kim Wess LISW
is an Independently Licensed Social Worker. Kim earned a Bachelor's degree in Education and Master's degree in Social Work from Youngstown State University. Kim has experience in treating addiction, depression, anxiety, as well as grief and loss. Kim has experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as group therapy. *Poland Office

Rochelle Wysinger
is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who is also a supervising counselor. Rochelle received a Master's of Science Degree in Education in Community Counseling (2008) from Youngstown State University. Rochelle has 13 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in various capacities. Her work history includes outpatient and in home mental health services, outpatient SUD/Mental Health Services, School Intervention Programs, SUD/Mental Health Counseling within a correctional setting, and Supervision of other Licensed counselors. Rochelle's experience comes through her work with agencies such as The United Methodist Community Center, Meridian Community Care, Homes For Kids, and Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services. Rochelle specializes in treating persons dealing with Substance Abuse Disorders, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Relationship issues, Depression, Trauma, Life Transition issues, and Bipolar Disorder. Leslie Markulin LISW

Denise Kelley has over 15 years experience working with children and families with behavioral and mental health needs. Denise was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and is a two time graduate from Youngstown State University. As well as earning her Professional Counseling License (LPCC, LPC) in both Ohio and Pennsylvania, Denise is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).  She has extensive experience working with children and adults with Autism in all settings. 
Denise started her counseling career with Valley Counseling in both the Warren and Liberty offices.  She lead the Partial Hospitalization Program at Belmont Pines Hospital for adolescents and children. Denise gained experience working with autism back in 2001 when she worked in Sharon, PA at a Wraparound Agency and she is still employed there to provide consultation and training to the staff. Denise earned her BCBA and was Lead Autism Clinician, carrying a high caseload while facilitating the Parent Support Group and Social Skills Groups; and in the Summer she was the Director of a Therapeutic Support Camp for children and adolescents with Autism.
Denise was awarded her independent license in Ohio after working at the D&E Counseling Center where she was a school based Behavior Specialist posted in the Youngstown City Schools to support the team by working with behavioral students. Denise has other various counseling experience currently leaving New Day Counseling and Wellness Center to join Preferred Care Counseling.
Denise had the opportunity to briefly work at The Rich Center for Autism last year, earning the Certified Ohio Board Analyst (COBA) certificate and further gaining experience working with students and families on the Autism Spectrum. *Poland and Howland Offices

Stephanie Fellenger has worked in the fields of community mental heath and addiction treatment. She has experience working with diverse clients across the lifespan. She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from the Ohio State University in 2004. After completing a Master of Arts degree in English (2007), she returned to her studies to complete a Masters of Education degree in Community and Addiction Counseling from Youngstown State University (2012) and transitioned into work as a counselor. Stephanie is an Independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), and is currently working on her PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision through Walden University. She has experience working with substance abuse/dependency, severe and persistent mental health, court involved treatment, and medication assisted treatment. Additionally she has gained experience with clients of all ages, including recent experience with children and adolescents. Her clinical experience includes individual, group, family, and couples counseling. Stephanie enjoys working with substance abuse issues, wellness related concerns, and LGBT related issues. *Poland Office 

Judy Fink LPCC
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins West Virginia. She earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Counseling Education and Supervision from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. As an RN, Judy has worked in Coronary Care, ICU, and Behavioral Health. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, she has held positions at Valley Counseling and PsyCare. She has taught Psychiatric Nursing and other courses at Kent State University for several years. Judy specializes in working with persons with general mental he alt disorders, grief issues, medical disorders, spiritual issues, and those with relationship concerns. She believes in a holistic approach, working toward being healthy in all areas of health. *Poland Office

Erin Rider LPCC earned a bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology from Clarion University in 2011 and a Master's of Education Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University in 2014. Erin has worked as a counselor in a residential treatment center for children and adolescents ages 10-18. Erin became certified to work with juveniles who have sexually offended, helping them develop an understanding of why they offended and rehabilitate them back into the community and with their families when appropriate. She also has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families with severe trauma (physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect). Erin accepts children, adolescents, and adults as patients. She has experience working with a variety of conditions including: PTSD, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, and Autism. Vicki Pelletier is a Licensed Independent Social Worker-Supervisor with over 18 years f experience in the mental health and drug and alcohol fields. Vicki graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's of Social Work. She then went on to pursue a Master's of Science in Social Administration at Case Western Reserve University. She continued her education at Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, receiving a Juris Doctor. Vicki has extensive training in cognitive therapy at the Cleveland Institute of Cognitive Therapy. Vicki has three years of experience in program management in mental health and substance abuse programs. Vicki treats patient's ages 10 and up for depression, anxiety, marital/family issues, ADHD, LGBTQ population, and substance abuse. *Howland Office

Michelle Piacquadio joined the Army in 1973. She was a medical corpsman and behavioral science specialist. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies from Chaminade University of Honolulu with Majors in Psychology and Sociology. She left the Army in 1981 to earn her Master's Degree in Health Care Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She continued in the Virginia National Guard until 1985 as a medical corpsman. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1987 in Virginia. She was in private practice in Virginia Beach for over 20 years. She specialized in eating disorders, couples therapy, and grief/loss. In 2004, Michelle decided to return to her "military niche" and became a Navy Contractor providing therapy as a LCSW at Fleet and Family Support Center in Virginia Beach. In 2008, she took a position at Andrews Airforce Base Mental Health Clinic in MD where she provided counseling to service members from all branches of the military. She was trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy for treatment of PTSD and provided treatment for various mental health issues including: depression, anxiety, loss, adjustment problems, relationship/couples therapy and trauma. Michelle semi-retired from the Department of Defense as a civil servant (GS) in September 2016. She has since returned "back home" to Trumbull County, she grew up in Niles. She obtained her Ohio Licensed Independent Social Work License in May of 2016 and has joined Preferred Care Counseling. She has a special interest in helping those in the military and/or veterans. She also does her best work with grief/loss issues, trauma, depression/anxiety, co-dependency/adult children of alcoholics, relationship issues (including same sex couples), and other adjustment issues.
